In a critical review the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet stated that the journal:
”oscillates between essayism, artistic practice and meta reflection in a most exiting way. They write about silent knowledge, poetics, reflection on reflection, composition of the composed, in the difference between objective and subjective knowledge, epistemology and doxology…

The journal ArtMonitor 2007-2013

The journal ArtMonitor aims to present interesting artistic projects that gives different perspectives to artistic research. You will find artists, musicians, philosophers, film makers, designers, photographers - all art forms - presented and with their views on artistic research. 

ArtMonitor was published by the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the university of Gothenburg from 2007-2013. Read more about the different issues below. Old issues of the journal can still be ordered for free - email konstkansli@konst.gu.se. The journal is mainly in English, and sometimes in bilingual Swedish/English editions.

10/2013: Rostockseminariet

Artistic research needs doctoral students, practitioners perspective as a complement to the administrators more anonymous epistles. The choice of authors for this anthology was decided by the erratic, icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull. All flights were cancelled and the doctoral students booked a place on the ferry between Rostck and Trelleborg. To pass tme an improvised seminarium was arranged about artistic research... 9/2010: Passionen för det reala: nya rum/Passion for the real

Artists, film makers, musicians, designers looking for new perspectives... A concept lands in the dusk: Passion for the real... Žižek. Things happen. And maybe all this is about space, new spaces, new own old spaces? And so much creativity, so much critique, so many inspiring endeavours to relate to passions, the real, the documentary, realism, reality... (In swedish) 

8/2010: The Arttext

This issue is dedicated to the forms of artistic writing that are not fiction, critique or science, but interesting examples of the new kinds of essay writing that can be found in artistic research.  The issue is based on the international conference ArtText that was held at the Dickson Palace in Gothenburg 2009.

The Place of Art - Esther Shalev-Gerz

In 2006 the artist Esther Shalev-Gerz created a relational art project in Bergsjön, Göteborg, Sweden. The project was unique in its ability to unite very different people, with different cultural origins and convictions around the idea of a Place of Art. This volume describes, analyses and documents the processes around The Place of Art.
