What is your story

News: Jun 11, 2010

The HDK design master students have been invited by IKEA to participate in an exhibition during "Love 2010" in Stockholm, in the beginning of June.

The students mission is to show "design for past, present and future relations". Other participating students come from Konstfack, Borås Textilhögskola and Industrial design students from Umeå and Lund University.

This is how the GDK Design students describe their exhibition:
"Our concept is built on the stories about relations we’ve had with someone, something, somewhere at sometime. Our relations are a part of our own history, and are something that we should carry with us and not forget. Just like the folding-game where you together draw a person without looking at each others sketches, we built a story with the same principal where we finished each other sentences.

We want to show this story, not only by words, but also interpret the words into objects that together create an unique environment; a space for our memories of relationships. We hope that many people will relate to our memories and start thinking about their own stories."

"Friendship" by Joanna Szawarniak & Frida Jacobsson
Group of Friendship is a set of cups that are inspired by people being part of a group and are shaped after each other. The Swedish way of Fika is one way to meet each other and share life with each other.

"Every minute, Every Hour" by Anna Alriksson
The Clock "Every minute, Every Hour" is a philosophical interpretation of a love story where time is the key. Together they stand side by side, for every minute and hour passing by a new future takes it´s shape that creates the memories of tomorrow. They need each other to work and become complete, like the pointers of the clock need each other to deduce the correct time.

"Riminiscent lamp" by Ondrej Elfmark
Riminiscent lamp, made from black rims, spokes and rope, is inspired by my adventures on a bike. Slightly sway spokes lampshade evoke the atmosphere of never ending journey of life.

"The silent conversation between two friends" by Niclas Andersson and David Qvick
When a friendship devolves, the two friends can often find themselves sitting next to each other, saying nothing in words, but still having a conversation. Our bench is formed with the inspiration of this phenomenon. Inspiration also comes from the sound curve, and is in the sitting area of the bench modestly illustrated in the pine-wood.

"Twin Sisters" by Sara Roxana Melvinson
The lamp "Twin Sisters" is a portrayal of a twin pair relationship that grows up very close togetherbut then separated to find their own paths in life and become two separate individuals.
