Congratulations to Ruben Östlund, former Professor at the Valand Academy, and the team behind The Square! What inspiration for all of us who study and teach film at the University of Gothenburg.
Since The Sqare first was shown at the Cannes Film Festival last spring, it has won a lot of prices worldwide, including a Palm d´Or and a Guldbagge. Now the film is nominated for an Oscar for best Foreign language film.
The Square is a satirical drama that takes place in the art world. It addresses questions about community, civil courage and self-centeredness. The film is produced by Erik Hemmendorff, who, like Ruben Östlund, is educated at the University of Gothenburg.
