"River of Light manages to bring together many people of different ages and with different backgrounds around an important issue”, says Alexander Goldmann, Culture Education Hisingens Kulturskola.

At the centre of the project are the lantern-making workshops which serve as meeting points in the community for new arrivals and Swedish young people and families. The workshops use art as a tool to break the boundaries of language, geography, cultural divisions and thereby bring people of all kinds of backgrounds together who would not normally meet.

The project was created in the belief that creativity and working with artists can accelerate the process of integration, especially amongst unaccompanied minors, and their Swedish peers. The project also aims to support the development of newly arrived artists through offering residency opportunities.
