Deans' letter June

News: Jun 18, 2019

News for staff members at the faculty about among other things: Thanks for the nice summer party, decision about the building project and Konst2025 and things to look forward to this fall.

The academic year is coming to an end, the first year for us here in the Dean's office on Storgatan. It has been a lot to learn this year, but when autumn comes we will have been through the round once, which will be nice.

Thanks for a great summer party!

The year ended in the best way with a great summer party for the whole Faculty. It feels good to meet everyone. To have fun together is also very important for a good collaboration. Many thanks to Helena Wattström who took the initiative and planned, and thanks to all of you who came and contributed to the nice party!

Time to decide on the building

We are now in an exciting phase with our vision Konst2025 and our building. The in-depth feasibility study has been completed and discussed in the Head of the Departments Council and the Faculty Board. We have also discussed costs, with focus on a long-term sustainable economy for the Faculty. On this basis, I am now ready to make a decision to proceed in the construction process and sign an agreement with Akademiska Hus, a decision that in practice means that the building will realised. Read more in the staff news on June 19th.

HSM will be affected by the construction project first, since it´s in connection with HSM's premises that the project begins. An important part of the preliminary study was to investigate the possibility of temporary premises for HSM during the construction period. You can view the report on the web (Swedish only).

Some things to look forward to this autumn

The real merger of HDK and Valand is approaching rapidly. The administration is already in place and from the autumn, the Departmental Councils and other forums will have joint meetings.

I´m also looking forward to continue the work on the Faculty's vision and strategy, which we will immerse ourselves in, both at the Departments' staff days in August and at the Faculty days in November. It is also exciting that the University's new vision will be developed and apply from 2021. Please think about which input you want to give in these two processes.

Other things to look forward to in the autumn is the developing of our research environments based on the results of the RED19 evaluation that we received in June, and the Struten investigation where there hopefully will be some news. But first we´ll have a well-deserved summer vacation!

The Faculty in Almedalen

Before we round up for summer, some of us go to Almedalsveckan, Sweden's annual democracy festival, where cultural issues are discussed a lot. Our faculty participates in many interesting events. Among other things, we organize together with the network Konstex (artistic higher education in Sweden) a panel debate on the Arts at School, where Minister of Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind participates. The film collegium at Valand has since several years an established arena with focus on the role of film and the camera in the society and Ulf Dalnäs will moderate several panel discussions. I myself will take part for the first time and look forward to learning more about Swedish political culture and culture and education politics. See all the Facultys´arrangements in Almedalen on the web (Swedish).

Happy summer, wishes Sanne, Tarja and Henric

The Deans’ Letters are sent to all staff at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, in Swedish and in English. They are also published on the Faculty website.
