Polar Music Prize Winner, Zohra and Dream Orchestra

Zohra, the first orchestra for women in Afghanistan, is entering the stage for the first time in Gothenburg, March 10, at 6 pm. The Zohra orchestra, consisting of 25 women, was created by the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) and Dr. Ahmad Sarmast, laureates of the Polar Music Prize 2018. In this exclusive concert, Zohra will appear together with youngsters from the Dream Orchestra.

Children and adolescents from more than 16 nationalities, many of them refugees from Afghanistan, build up the Dream Orchestra. The Dream Orchestra has, like Zohra, transformed the lives of its members through the power of playing music together.
The meeting between ANIM and the Dream Orchestra can also be seen as a tribute to the initiative to offering an educational environment for hundreds of children and young people.

The concert will also include the participation of students from the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg.

The evening with Zohra will be a celebration of the importance of music for humans and society, transmitted through a musical journey that spans through hundreds of years, over many countries, as well as various cultures.

The concert is a unique, international meeting, arranged by the association Dream Orchestra in collaboration with the Academy of Music and Drama, Zohra and the Polar Music Prize.
