Richard Slee

Föreläsning

Richard Slee is ceramic artist currently working on a solo presentation for Hales Gallery, New York in January 2019. Works are represented in Museum collections worldwide including the National Museum, Stockholm.

Over the last decade or so, Richard Slee have begun to question why his continue to choose ceramic as his chosen material. He have enough technique and skills; no need for more. He is not interested in the medium's abstract possibilities which are too restrictive for him. So, what is its relevance as a meaningful material for him? Increasingly he see his work moving further away from history and ceramic references, its specialisation and justifications. The traces of these interests can still be detected: the domestic realm, and the decorative craft object. He remain interested in the power of my art within the home, an interior human scale. This talk will track how he have grappled with and confronted ceramics from utility to futility, as work and play.
